I have always heard this growing up, but those that said it mostly did not practice as with most moral rules. I honesty really the best policy or is it just a quick way to get in trouble without exit plan? Is it a good rule? What are the exceptions?

I dont agree that it is. Many times someone will say that they are just being honest. It's more like they are just being nasty. Its better to keep your thoughts to yourself. Keep your thoughts and smile lol.

Yes I agree. Not speaking all the mind is not dishonest right.. When you don't say everything you think this is not being dishonest. You are just being selective without lying. I think we do this thing every day.

I learned right and early that its not for the simple reason that a number of people can't handle the truth so my thing is not to lie but also not to say all you know

It's the best policy. There are probably exceptions to every policy, but that does not make the policy invalid. From my loved ones, what do I want? honesty. Like That Bill Joel song: Honesty is hardly ever heard, and mostly what I need from you.

Good point Selena. When I tell a lie, I usually am covering my own tracks.

In that case I try to find a compliment that I believe. I don't think I am a caliber actor that can lie with sufficient conviction. I think many of us consider ourselves to be better liars than we in fact are. One more reason to stick to information we can share with confidence.
