Should UEFA and FIFA separate international teams with recent non-footballing conflicts in tournament football?

With the recent abandonment of the match between Albania and Serbia, should the footballing governing bodies separate teams that have had previous non-footballing conflicts? Is it up to the countries footballing powers to make sure no problems happen? Should international affairs bleed onto the football pitch? Should the fans take responsibility of these matters and know that football has nothing to do with matters political?

It's easy to say we you should separate the two, but unfortunately it doesn't work like that. The players represent the nation, and with that comes all the political stuff too. Governing bodies should step in, cause it seems the players are too much part of it.

With a situation like this, these two squads should not be in the ring together. Put fat & fire together and your going to have a mess. Can't always be foreseen, here they thought it would be fine and it wasn't. So its often a bit of a gamble. But passions run really high with this political stuff, ppl have a captive audience, you can't blame them for using the event or make pretty statements like don't mix sport with politics.

Im against governing bodies baby sitting the teams and the players, what they should do is train and educate the squad about not mixing politics with the game after all it's not a 'game' they can be expected to be professional, this is their job

Only way to do that would be to also impose fines and penalties for political action within the context of games.

Found out that this is actually done with some teams in UEFA;
- Spain and Gibraltar
- Russia and Georgia
- Formerly England and Scotland
- Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Why wasn't these two kept apart already then?

UEFA are defending themselves, and even making some sense. If 2 countries are not in a military conflict at the time, are having normal diplomatic relations, then the teams are not separated except by special request, which was not the case here either.

The teams were acting immaturely and ridiculously as far as I'm concerned. So they were considered ok to play each other, they should behave like adults and not like hot head teenagers. Its not the governing bodies fault, not this time.

You can't look from your comfy position and impose your standard mate. Politics is life and death. It's survival and these people are very passionate about their side. More passionate than their football side if I may say so :)
