Would a "Dislike Button" be a Good Addition to Facebook?

It's been revealed this week that Facebook are close to adding the option to dislike Facebook posts. While others feel this is a featured that should have been implemented years ago, others feel this featured could be abused by some users and be used sarcasticly to bully and troll people. Where do you stand? Do you give the proposed dislike button a thumbs up or thumbs down?

Is it open to the general public or only to your friends? You can probably choose in settings. Maybe they will even let you switch off the dislike button lol.

Today we're launching a test of Reactions -- a more expressive Like button.
The Like button has been a part of Facebook for a long time. Billions of Likes are made every day, and Liking things is a simple way to express yourself.
For many years though, people have asked us to add a "dislike" button. Not every moment is a good moment, and sometimes you just want a way to express empathy. These are important moments where you need the power to share more than ever, and a Like might not be the best way to express yourself.
At a recent Townhall Q&A, I shared with our community that we've spent a lot of time thinking about the best way to give you better options for expressing yourself, while keeping the experience simple and respectful. Today we're starting to test this.
Reactions gives you new ways to express love, awe, humor and sadness. It's not a dislike button, but it does give you the power to easily express sorrow and empathy -- in addition to delight and warmth. You’ll be able to express these reactions by long pressing or hovering over the Like button.
We’re starting to test Reactions in Ireland and Spain and will learn from this before we bring the experience to everyone. We hope you like this – or can better express how you’re feeling!

I like that idea. Why not give people a lot of choice I'm sure the emoticons are gonna be beesknees.

We need an 'i don't know' option on this debate......because I just don't know....FB is so bitchy even with like buttons......it's just going to make it even more negative

It's just a 'dislike' button. Why does that mean hate? You won't get so many negative comments now because people can just press a button.

No not at all. Facebook is based on friendship and it's supposed to be a safe place for a bit of mutual support. We show personal things, family photos, personal view points and it's not the kind of place you want to get slapped around the face, it's the kind of place where you go for that much needed pat on the back. If anyone wants to express disapproval there are very good ways to do it on Facebook, because it's done through comments every day. I think a dislike button would tip things and make it more trolley that is. Many young people get bullied on Facebook as it is. The makers of the site would do better making it a more positive supportive environment, which is what it needs to be.
