This is a debate we had back in 2014 after the Scottish Referendum allowed 16 and 17 year olds to vote but A LOT has changed in the whirlwind world of UK Politcs since then so it's worth having again. Should 16 and 17 year olds be allowed to vote?

Today's 16 year olds are more aware than 18 year olds 40 years ago.

Yesss. If Brexit had had 16-18 year olds we would still be in the EU. Now retiring voters at a certain age, there's something to be said for a motion like that. (Just kidding)

The opportunity to vote on this came yesterday but the Tories blocked the chance of it going to a vote, what a gigantic missed opportunity to put faith in the younger generation to decide their future.

Yes I remember that. I say yes because the younger that people start to vote the more chance you have of keeping them engaged in political life when they are adults.

I'd still say 18. That's when you're fully mature and it also helps to keep voting respected.

It seems most of the time that when this comes up that its being raised because 16-17 year olds would secure a win for the party that is the favourite of the person who is making the argument for the change.
