What are some of the reasons why university graduates can't find a job according to what they have studied?

I notice a large percentage of graduates can't find jobs in the area that they want. University fees has increased to £9,000 pounds from the year 2013 which leaves a bigger debt for students to pay back with little hope of getting a job.

So what are some of the reasons ? is it lack of skill, not enough jobs, laziness etc.

Graduates still have better chances of jobs, even if they are not their dream jobs. The recession is a big reason why grads do not land the jobs they crave. Seems society is now recovering, so these figures might adjust for the better. Fingers crossed!!

Yes but when you study for so many years with a big debt hanging over you then you want that job you have studied for, I think the UK has been in a depression for a very long time and not a recession. I think any body can get a job but graduates don't aim to be working in Mcdonalds or subway so do graduates really have a chance of getting a job or a career towards what they been studying? Very unlikely, and if that's so why are students studying for? People come out of uni with 1st or 2.1 and end up working in Tesco stacking shelves

True, I've seen it too. I think Unis are a bit soft. Society is a bit of a cold shower and many grads aren't prepared mentally for the job hustle & chase.

Yes but what is education ? Something you are being taught in school or something you learn for yourself, how to engage critical thinking, something that students these days are not taught. Education is good but how do we solve the issues of lack of jobs for example. Education is a privilege but how we define it and the whole purpose of it is something totally different to what we are seeing in reality.

Yes and that's because the faculty & college system is not really in the students' corner. They're in their own (padded) corner.

So how do you think students should prepare themselves for the reality what is a dog eat dog world ?

I think that Unies now have been a DIY deal. You educate yourself, and the professors are on standby mode. So students have to educate themselves, get experience, and more than anything else, build a really tight work ethic for themselves. Plus they have to catch up in all sorts of personal/human resources skills that education doesn't prepare people for.

Studies form human. But I think that people studied mainly due to the "paper".

Absolutely true, it can. But increasingly, young people are asked to invest full time effort into unpaid internships of 30 plus hours a week, and they are then vetted of against each other as there are huge numbers of applicants for each positions. I'm sure you see this happening too Julius. The marketplace is very far away from what it was in 2007..

Yes I am doing two unpaid internships at the moment plus I am still a student too, I have no idea what the future holds for me when I graduate.

Nor do I. Some students came to UK don't stay for too long, and they go back home. Have seen more than 5 of my friends how they gave up :(

Yes it is even harder for international students, it's weird how everything works because in the UK the education system is not good compared to other countries but there is more job opportunities in the UK and abroad the education system is far better than the UK but less job opportunities abroad, it's almost like a no win situation. I think what most people are doing is heading to Dubai, Australia for job opportunities.
